Russell Wilson’s days in Denver are over after just two seasons and 30 total games.
The veteran quarterback posted a heartfelt goodbye to the Broncos and the city of Denver on social media Monday.
"Over these last two years, you have welcomed my family and me with open arms and have embraced us as members of the Denver community. This city will always hold a special place in my heart. Our family grew here, we made countless memories and friendships, and formed relationships that will last a lifetime," Wilson posted on X. "To my teammates, thank you for going to battle together and for being there through it all. There are so many moments I cherish because of you and I am blessed for the impact you have made on my life. I am beyond grateful for all of you and to have been able to run out as your teammate wan an honor."
The Broncos released a statement upon Wilson’s release.
Wilson’s dismissal from Denver became imminent after the Broncos benched him for the final two games of the 2023 regular season for Jarrett Stidham.

Wilson had an up and down two years in the Mile High City. He produced 42 touchdown passes to just 19 interceptions. But he averaged just 219 passing yards per game and had a 11-19 regular-season record in 30 starts. The Broncos ranked last in points per game in 2022 and ranked 26th in the NFL in total offense under new head coach Sean Payton in 2023.
The Broncos will incur a record-setting $85 million dead cap hit over the next two seasons due to Wilson’s release.
Denver acquired Wilson in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks before the 2022 season.
Wilson, 35, spent his first 10 years with the Seahawks. He had a 104-53-1 regular-season record in Seattle, helped the franchise win Super Bowl 48 and left the Seahawks as the franchise’s all-time leader in touchdown passes and passing yards.
