Sabrina Carpenter knows her family has good taste.
After all, the 25-year-old isn’t worried about what her family thinks about her risqué on-stage performances. In fact, the “Espresso” singer is confident they’re proud of her success.
“My fans online are like, ‘I can’t believe she's bending over in front of her grandparents!’” Sabrina told TIME in an interview published Oct. 2. “I'm like, ‘Girl, they are not paying attention to that.’ They’re just like, ‘I can’t believe all these people are here.’”
Plus, the “Please Please Please” singer doesn’t see her sexuality as something to shy away from in her act.
“Femininity is something that I've always embraced,” Sabrina continued. “And if right now that means corsets and garter belts and fuzzy robes or whatever the f--k, then that's what that means.”
And the Girl Meets World alum—who is currently touring her Short N’ Sweet album, recently selling out Madison Square Garden on Sept. 29—has certainly established a sparkly aesthetic for her racy performances, with her staple diamond-encrusted Victoria’s Secret bodysuits among the many sexy outfit changes during her show.
But the “Slim Pickins” singer knows how to deal with critics that may see her on-stage presence as NSFW.
“You'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing,” Sabrina said. “To that I just say, ‘Don't come to the show and that’s OK.’”
For her, the outfits are a way to feel confident while she sings in front of thousands of fans.
“The scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it's nothing,” Sabrina shared. “If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that's what you’ve got to do.”
